BIOGRAPHY

6FT SOMETHING was originally formed in December 2006 by Gerry Underwood and Jamie Tripp. They identified a hole in the local gig scene for a classic punk cover band and decided that the time was right to get back to gigging.

Gerry and Jamie first met when playing in well know local band "Fallen Idol", Gerry on rhythm guitar and vocals with Jamie on bass. After Fallen Idol split Gerry put down his guitar and had a well-deserved rest, while Jamie spent most of the time lending his skills as a sound engineer to a few local bands as well toying with several projects.

John Bamber was added to the line up just before Christmas as lead guitarist. Although this is his first band since school,
with 15 years of playing experience behind him at only 23, John was an ideal choice.

The band spent the next few weeks rehearsing material with a temporary drummer until the end of January when
Matthew Miller joined on drums bringing with him over 10 years of drumming experience. As a session drummer, Matt is in high demand for both studio and live work. He has drummed on the same bill with the likes of Alien Ant Farm, which makes his inclusion in the band a real catch.

With the band's first gig looming, work quickly started on building up a solid list of songs ranging from classic 70's punk like The Sex Pistols and The Ramones to more modern songs by band like Rancid and Blink-182.

Unfortunately in mid June 2007, just after he'd finished all his drum tracks for the demo, Matt was told he had to stop drumming for health reasons. But disobeying all the doctors orders, Matt carried on rehearsing with us and struggled through one more gig but that was all he could manage.

After a lengthy search and more posters, emails and phone calls than we can remember and a couple of tryouts we finally found our next drummer in Luke Atkinson. With 4 years of playing experience Luke really showed his potential at his tryout and after only two rehearsals played very well at his first gig.

Gigging was good throughout 2008, with the band never short of a gig. But all good things must come to an end as they say and in September Luke left 6ft Something to go off to University at Cambridge no less.

So with the hairy one off studying Whale migration or something, a new drummer was found, even younger, shorter with less hair than the last but with enough raw talent and boyish good looks to make up for it.

Enter Peter Catlin, an amazing drummer with so much talent and passion for drumming it's hard to imagine anything he'd find hard to play.
Pete actually joined in the summer because everyone knew Luke was always going to get a million A*'s in his A-levels and go to uni, so the hunt for a replacement started before the summer did.

A year on and the 6ft name is finally spreading. With gigs at the King's Lynn Corn Exchange, Norwich's B2, Kettering and Leicestershire already happening or happened, it's hard to think about where 6ft Something will be at the end of 2010…
